Flowchart of the TweetEm ProjectTweetEm - Following the WSUV 6th Annual Research Showcase

TweetEm was created by five WSUV students in the Spring of 2009 for the DTC 375 Language, Texts, and Technology class. The object was to design, create and research a project of our own design. This project had a six week timeline before being presented at the WSUV 6th Annual Research Showcase on April 9th, 2009 on the WSUV campus in Vancouver, Washington.

Introduction

TweetEm is an experiment created by five WSU - Vancouver students for their DTC 375 class (Spring 09). For our capstone project, we were required to provide a research topic that deals with digital media and culture. We chose to research if a social network application, in this case Twitter, could be used to create an interactive poem. In the course of eight weeks to come up with an abstract, research the project and choose a medium.

Personal Statement - Kerry Mraz

When we first started talking about putting this project together, I got very excited. About a hour after we decided on the project, I thought, "what did I just get myself into?!" Although, I have never done anything with RSS feeds, I had a hunch that I could get this running. After a few hours of Internet research, I found a few very helpful websites that discussed how Twitter worked, that they already provided all posts into an RSS feed. Unfortunately, I ran into the issue of retrieving information from an authentication website. Nose to the grindstone, I went back to researching and found two website listed on the About Page that were instrumental for getting the project up and running. Once I modified the code to meet our needs, I knew we could complete the project. After this I knew it would be up to the marketing guys to spread the word. Credit goes to my wife for helping me pick out colors and designing the website.
